About the Bootcamp

The BC Summer Bootcamp is a 6-week introduction to corporate finance and investment analysis for all incoming and current students at UCL. Each session is led by a BC associate who has past internship experience at leading investment banks or investment firms. They will lead a presentation, case study, or workshop covering the fundamental tenets of investment analysis. At the end of the program, candidates will be led by an associate to apply their knowledge and produce a stock pitch. The best-performing candidates will have an accelerated recruitment process into BC.

Applications for incoming first-year students will open in July/August.

The Timeline

Week 1

Business Evaluation

Candidates will learn about the concept of stock pitching and the fundamentals of businesses. This session will cover from industry analysis to understanding business models. Candidates should have a solid understanding of how investors view different types of companies by the end.

Week 2

Accounting Fundamentals

This session will cover the basics of accounting and corporate finance. The 3 financial statements will be introduced and candidates will be able to understand how to evaluate companies from a financial perspective.

Week 3

Trading Comparables

After learning about businesses and basic accounting, candidates will be introduced to the first valuation method used in equity investing. The concepts of multiples and financial ratios will be taught, so candidates will be able to evaluate companies based on their relative financial performance.

Week 4

DCF Intro

In this session, candidates will be taught the basic concepts of the DCF model. Candidates will learn about company revenue & cost projections, applying the WACC, and etc that is key to constructing a DCF.

Week 5

Build Your Own DCF Walkthrough

Candidates will be given a step-by-step walkthrough of how to construct a DCF model. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates to practice using Excel and develop financial modeling skills.

Week 6

Stock Pitch

At the end of the bootcamp, candidates will be grouped into teams led by a bootcamp instructor. Candidates will be given the opportunity to apply their knowledge/skills learned during the bootcamp in the stock pitch. In the end, the stock pitch will be presented to the BC committee and given detailed feedback for improvement.
